Media: Connla Hundr Lung (Formerly Freyjason)

Bio

Connla Hundr Lung is the creator and founder of the animistic and symbiotic magickal system known as Heidhr Craft/Vendel Witchcraft, a Vitki and Godhi within that Tradition, and the author of Norse Witch: Reclaiming the Heidhrinn Heart and Blessings of Fire and Ice: A Norse Witch Devotional, as well as co-author of Turning the Wheel: The Ritual Year of the Norse Witch. He is now also the co-founder of the Witchcraft Tradition known as Syrenity or Syrene Witchcraft, alongside Michelle Iacona, holding titles as Retiarius and Godsinger within that Tradition. He currently works full-time as Art Director and Public Relations Director at Iaconagraphy Press. Formerly known as Connla Freyjason, he has been dead and Pagan for at least three decades, and tends to view his status as a channeled spirit as “the elephant in the room that everyone actually wants to talk about”. However, he would much rather be regarded as a Chinese-American man with a valuable voice; a man who has something worthwhile to say, via both his art and his writing. He just happens to also be a man, like most men, who got where he is right now through considerable help from very dear friends and loved ones. Though raised Buddhist/Taoist with a strong Protestant backbeat, for the past three decades of his afterlife, Connla has explored various Pagan paths, including Wicca, Kemeticism, Welsh Reconstructionist Druidry, and Heidhr Craft, before co-founding and settling into Syrenity. Connla currently holds the equivalency of a degree in Archaeology (with emphasis on Norse Studies), and is presently working on the equivalency of a Masters in Archaeology (equivalencies because: it is very hard to find a university that is willing to enroll the Dead!). Connla has furthered his knowledge of the esoteric arts in classes conducted by such important names in the field as Christopher Penczak, Mat Auryn, Kristoffer Hughes, John Hijatt, and Renee Des Anges. Connla currently resides in Massachusetts, along with his “hostess-with-the-mostest”, Michelle, and his Beloved, Suzanne. He is owned by four cats: Kili Freyjason (on the Other Side), Lady Blueberry Cheesecake of the Twitchy Tail (on the Other Side), Nimue (on the Other Side), and Gimli. Connla enjoys cooking, home-making, paper-crafting, crochet, leather-crafting, sewing, creating digital art, writing poetry, researching Straight Egyptian Arabian horses, designing and creating tack for model horses (working with miniatures), serving his Deities, trying to make the world a more compassionate place, and learning as much as he possibly can about those things which spark his passions.

The Name Change

Why “formerly Freyjason”? It has much to do with the magickal power of names, as well as ceasing to “self-whitewash” and embracing and acknowledging his Cantonese heritage, especially in this time when Asians deserve and desire greater positive visibility. The name “Hundr” is sourced from his personal past life explorations; it was added largely in an effort to communicate that he is and identifies as male, using the pronouns he, him, his.

“In this book (Norse Witch), Freyjason has created a dialog and sacred safe space in which those who feel the call of the Northern Gods, Goddesses, and Beings can practice in a modern context in ways that they sense those same Gods and Beings are leading them. Freyjason has a very deep connection to many of the God/desses with very intense and personal relationships as well as knowledgeable foundation of the lore, sagas, Old Norse language, and archaeological findings….Norse Witch sets out to reclaim the Heathen (or Heidhrinn) HEART. This is accomplished in a writing style that makes the reader feel like they are sitting in the same room with the author and hearing the experiences first hand. Freyjason cuts through the distance with a writing style that engages on many levels during the experience and entices the Heidhrinn heart to wake up and move forward with how the God/desses are interacting with them.”

“Norse Witch is a book written with passion, intelligence, and wisdom. It not only contains the basics of Heathen cosmology but shows how one can develop their own personal practice and connection with the Norse deities. If you’re interested in Heathenry but tired of the dogma, racism, or the armchair snobbery that can be found in some of these circles and want something with a strong devotional and magickal perspective – this is definitely a book for you.”

“This little book right here in your hands is a brave thing. In fact, it is far more brave, and far more beautiful, than anything I have ever written. Connla has proven that he is as much of an artist with words, as he is with paint, or brush, or pen, or paper, or pixels. In writing this, he has also proven that he is precisely the warrior that I have always known him to be. Your viewpoints will be challenged, as you read this book. By the last page of it, parts of your worldview might even find themselves thoroughly changed. But if books cannot touch our lives, why do we waste our time reading them? And if writers must only write books that maintain the status quo, why waste time writing them?”
