Connla Freyjason prefers to think outside the box, even as he practices the Old Ways. A practicing vitki and sometime-seidhr-worker, he has been Pagan for over twenty years, and now supports a vision of Inclusive Heathenry which promotes the Spirit of the Norse, rather than adhering to History as the Letter of the Law. Author of Norse Witch: Reclaiming the Heidhrinn Heart, his is a voice straight from the Otherworld.  The “presiding spirit” currently “horsed” by Ollamh Michelle Iacona, he is also the CEO of Iaconagraphy’s digital art branch, and author of the Iaconagraphy blog.

“Ultimately, all I can do is work from my own realm of experience, and hope that it touches some small part of your experiences. Many kind and wonderful people have made the request that I compose a devotional for the practicing Norse Witch, and I have tried my utmost, with the Gods’ gracious help, to pour blessings into this book worthy of those requests….This is, first and foremost, precisely that: a book of blessings. On a particularly grey day in April, I found myself faced with the sudden need to pick up the pieces, while my Publishing Editor fell apart. So I did what any good Norse Witch would do: I prayed, and then I pulled a rune. That rune was Ansuz. Rather than basing this book on the typical ‘hook, book, look, took’ method used by most Christian devotionals, the Gods made it very clear to me from the onset that this book was meant to be something different. They intended for it to be a ray of light in an otherwise dark world, and I solemnly pray that it will be.” –Connla Freyjason, Blessings of Fire and Ice, Introduction: The Wheel of Fire and Ice

In Time outside of time
I stand,
Horn and dagger,
Cup-in-hand;
Blot I pour
To Gods-of-mine,
Blood replaced
By juice or wine.
I raise a toast
To those held dearest,
And feel Their touch
As they come nearer.
Ages erase themselves
In the closing of an eye,
And I am bound back,
And back, and
Back again,
To Ancestors
Of Blood and Bone,
And Ancestors
Of Path-Not-Kin.

“There are many in the Heathen community who are very quick to pronounce ‘you are doing it wrong!’ when it comes to practices of a magical, modern, or “not found in the lore” nature. By their own ideal of “what Heathenry was then”, those attitudes often fail to recognize or acknowledge a very important element: that of constant experiential reveal. In the very time period which many have selected as the point for all things Heathen or Asatru, the People were acting on the gnosis that was revealed to them at that time to create then-modern experiences–all without the ‘lore’. What this form of dogmatic clinging to an imagined religious system has done for many is to strengthen their resolve to develop the relationships with those Beings in a way that is relevant to life in the 21st
century.

Enter Connla Freyjason. Connla has accomplished much during his existence and has beaten the odds to continue to grow and share the passion he has for a vibrant and interactive relationship with Gods and Goddesses, supernatural Beings and spirits of nature (land and house vaettir). As an artist for many years and student of different paths of spirituality, he has met the Gods and Goddesses of the Northern European lands and is thriving in the experiences he is having with Them and eager to share that with others. These opportunities are translating to life lessons about spirituality by building upon the legacy of our ancestors and engaging with the diverse and wonderful powers of the Nine Worlds.

…In his books, Connla sets out to reclaim the Heathen (or Heidhrinn) heart–that of connecting by your own experiences to Those of the Nine Worlds. While Norse Witch set the foundation and laid out some tools, Blessings of Fire and Ice provides ways to learn how to apply those tools to a thriving modern spiritual practice.

The poems within this work integrate lessons and experiences of our ancestors preserved in the eddas and sagas as well as modern experiences and interpretations. They include stories of the past, experiences of the present, and inspiration from the heart and soul.

In a world where many are expressing their desire to separate and exclude, this book waters the seeds of the beautiful blooms of diversity, unity, and inclusivity. Connla intends to set forth a number of works, each building upon and supporting the ideals presented and encouraging those to be expressed and shared with others. Blessings of Fire and Ice is the second in that series.

I invite you to join Connla and other Norse Witches in discovering your own journey of the Nine Worlds….”
